Welcome to Southwest Services for the Deaf, Inc.

Southwest Services for the Deaf Inc., headed by Dr. David A. Sorensen, Ed.D., LPCC, is dedicated to promoting and providing mental health services, information, and resources for the Deaf community in the most effective ways possible. It is also our purpose to educate professionals, interested individuals, and the general public regarding mental health issues relating to the Deaf and hard of hearing.

David Sorensen, Ed.D., LPCC is the president of Southwest Services for the Deaf Inc., a professional resource which provides mental health services for the Deaf. Dr. Sorensen has wide background in the field of Deafness. Both of his parents are Deaf and reside in California. His father graduated from the Utah School for the Deaf in Ogden while his mother graduated from the Arizona State School for the Deaf in Tucson. Dr. Sorensen was raised in the Deaf community and understands the unique needs of the Deaf. He is also proficient in the use of American Sign Language.

Along with his education and credentials, Dr. Sorensen has had over 100 hours of training in Control Theory and Reality Therapy. He also has over 200 hours of training in family and marriage therapy. He has had extensive training in both substance abuse and sex offender's treatment. He has provided workshops, conferences and seminars throughout the United States on topics related to Deaf mental health, culture, and discipline.

Welcome message from Dr. David Sorensen

Dr. Sorensen contracts with several local agencies, which include a residential treatment center for Deaf adolescents, Albuquerque Public Schools, a not-for-profit group home for adolescents, and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He has contracted for services as a consultant to state agencies in North Carolina and Oregon .
