began serving the people of New Mexico as a non-profit organization in 1987. The expansion of our organization reflects the massive requests and responses from you. You are our customer. quality of living for individuals and families in our community. We are proud to support services for families.
La Familia
provides a comprehensive therapeutic group home program for adolescent Deaf and hard of hearing, ages 15 through 20. Adolescent Deaf and hard of hearing experience the same stresses, emotions and social problems as their hearing peers. However, these issues are exacerbated by limited linguistic and cultural access to professionals knowledgeable in these areas.
La Familia's
therapeutic group home is a community-based program staffed by experienced and knowledgeable individuals who are fluent in American Sign Language and understand the culture of the Deaf. Our adolescent Deaf and hard of hearing students live in a "home-like" environment free of linguistic barriers which provides a balance of therapeutic learning and integration into the community. Each student is expected to attend school in the Albuquerque Public School system as well as participate in local and Deaf community affairs.
